The Menzies Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon 1995

Vintage quality:
1995 was generally regarded as one of the more difficult seasons of the 1990's for Coonawarra. Early decisions were taken in January to crop-thin throughout the vineyard, with obvious benefits in regards to fruit maturity. Despite this, there were still sections of the vineyard that were not of suitable quality and hence were declassified, with the total volume of wine being around 30% of normal production.
Cellar guide:
5-10 years
Last tasted:
1997, Simon Adams, Winemaker
Notes:
Deep brick red in colour with youthful edges. The concentrated nose has a core of plum, cassis and violets with sweet oak background. The palate is tight and focused with a solid backbone. Fresh berry fruit flavours balanced by spicy nutmeg oak.
