Terroir The grapes selected to craft the 2023 VAT-11 Barossa Valley Grenache originate from a single vineyard established in 1965 within the Marananga sub-region. Positioned on a very gentle eastern slope, the vineyard features a north-south row orientation and benefits from well-drained, grey loam soil, layered over fine, red clay. This unique combination of microclimate, soil composition, limited yields and meticulous viticultural practices consistently delivers exceptional fruit quality.
Best Enjoyed With A wine born to be served with food. Enjoy with dishes such as sweet potato tortellini or a grazing platter of cured meats, aged cheese and figs.

Accolades

A beautiful wine
Redskins, wild cherry and redcurrants on the vine. Lofty Heliotrope and lilac florals. Pink peppercorn and glace papaya. Acidity is soaring and captures the intensity of red fruit, driving it down the palate with fine sandy tannins. There is a pulpy, plummy mid palate, that makes for really satisfying drinking. Cinnamon, star anise and carob spice on the finish. This showcases the quality and scarcity of dry grown quality Grenache vines in the Barossa. Drinking beautifully now, very integrated but will cellar for another 3-6 years. A beautiful wine to sip alongside duck spring rolls.

Plenty of red and boysenberry fruits
Light crimson with aromas of bright raspberry, red plum and mulberry fruits with a whiff of blood orange. Hints of exotic spice, gingerbread, cola, dried herbs, violets and earth. Plenty of red and boysenberry fruits on the palate, fine, chalky tannin tugging at the roof of the mouth and a bight cadence pushing the wine along to a medium-length finish.

Lifted, shiny and floral
Medium garnet with deep ruby rim. Lifted, shiny and floral: rich raspberry and cherry juice, dried kitchen herbs and lavender, potpourri, a little licorice, cocoa powder, brown soil, honeycomb and dried black tea leaves. Having plenty of intensity with that dried floral profile providing a crunchy feel. Raspberry and strawberry red fruit concentrate before chalky tannins and a medium length, savoury finish. Just feels a little dry and tight after the elegance of the same priced Vine Vale.

Impeccably well structured
The is Barossa Valley grenache on open display. It’s raspberried and fruit driven with a ball of sweet fruit flavour sitting pretty in the middle of the palate, though from there it turns elegant, and spicy, and impeccably well structured. Anise and general woodsy spice characters get a god run here, and the silken assertiveness of the tannin is spot on. This is an excellent drink. It’s effusively perfumed, generous through the palate but then detailed and controlled to close.

Gee, this is tasty gear
A joyous glass of slurpable delish from Yalumba, this brand new Vatt 11 hits in the Grenache sweet spot and then some. Silky, polished and draped in fine spices, it is bursting from the seams with squishy raspberries, baked strawberries, red currants, a flash of orange peel and a red apple crunch. Brown spices stretch out on a long finish with a fine band of sandy and black tea tannins reaching way into the distance. Gee, this is tasty gear. I could get dangerously comfortable with this, and perhaps I did. Drink to five years+
