Tasting Note Bright ruby purple in colour. The initial cedar and herbaceous aromatics open into inviting fragrances of pink grapefruit, red cherry and blueberry. The palate is plush, juicy and succulent. Red and blue fruits are entwined in delicious flavours with bright acidity and fine, powdery tannins.
Terroir This old vine Grenache was crafted from three blocks on our Tri-Centenary Vineyard, planted in 1929, 1949 and 1979, in the tiny Barossa Valley subregion of Vine Vale. The vineyard features deep sandy loam layers underlain with red-brown clay. These soils tend to be deep, holding an abundance of water that is essential for early season growth. With careful management these dry grown vines, in low organic matter soils, can consistently produce outstanding quality fruit.
Treatment The three blocks were wild fermented together with 30% whole bunch fruit, resulting in this outstanding expression of Vine Vale Grenache. The wine was then matured for 6 months in mature French oak puncheons.

Savoury and great drinking
Yalumba do good things with grenache, that's for sure. This sandy soils of Vine Vale at the base of the Eastern Range are just perfect for the variety, too. They coax the high tones and detail out of the variety that I just love. Supple red cherry, dark plum and raspberry fruits cut with exotic spice, subtle bunchy nuance, cola, gingerbread, citrus blossom and earth. Savoury and great drinking with powdery tannin and tail of raspberry, red cherry and spice.

The palate is so vibrant and red-fruited
Consistently one of my favourite Australian Grenache, and each year I look forward to seeing what it reveals. In this case, the season was very good and it comes from old vines planted in 1929 and 1949. The colour is quite pale crimson, and the body more light than medium. But the aromas are just the start. Strawberry, rose petal, a little spice, raspberry, and a touch of dried herb. The palate is so vibrant and red-fruited, with a crunchy fine acidity sustaining that slightly fleshy, plush, velvety smooth mid-palate. I’m loving it.

This is a fun wine
The fruit for this 2024 Vine Vale Grenache is from the same Tri-Centenary vineyard as the Tri-Centenary Grenache, although here the younger vines are utilized. Aromatically, the wine leads with white-top strawberries, sumac notes, paprika dolce, red apple and saline lift. This is nowhere near as complex as the older vines can manage, however the freshness and lift are ultra attractive here. This is a fun wine. The wine represents exceptional value for money. 14% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.
