The Caley Museum Release 2013

2013

Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz

This is a cerebral, throught-provoking number with layer upon layer of savoury, noble fruit. In 2013 KG marries 55% Coonawarra Cabernet with 45% Barossa Shiraz. This makes the 2013 a more ‘historical-Aussie-claret-shaped’ wine and the extra splash of Barossa Shiraz helps to bring flesh to the upright, masterful Cabernet. The richness here is amazing…

The Caley 2013 Museum Release is the pinnacle of a long winemaking journey of excellence, that rightfully honours one of Yalumba’s most adventurous sons. A blend of Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon and Barossa Shiraz, The Caley is a classic marriage of two noble varieties and two great Australian wine regions.
Tasting Note Pretty aromatics of seaspray, red and blue fruits, followed by savoury fruits. A very inviting and thought provoking wine. The palate is a powerhouse of wonderful richness and structure with the Shiraz adding fleshy generosity to the Cabernet Sauvignon.
Terroir Sourced from three outstanding vineyards in the Coonawarra and Barossa. Planted in 1992, the 2.7ha D block of Yalumba Coonawarra vineyard provides the 55% Cabernet. The Caley’s 45% Shiraz component was sourced from two Barossa blocks. One from the Simon Cowham old shiraz block planted in 1955, located in the foothills of the ranges near Light Pass. The other being the Crown Village old Shiraz vineyard planted in 1974 on Krondorf road.
Treatment Matured for 20 months in 41% new Yalumba-coopered French barriques and 59% in older French barriques and hogsheads.

The Museum Collection

Twenty years ago our winemaking team began putting away our flagship wines with the intention for the bottles to be enjoyed at a later date. It was envisioned that beautifully aged wines, released every year, would promote the reputation of surviving heirloom vineyards and consistently show the skilled craftsmanship behind our Yalumba collection.

Our 2025 release builds on that milestone with the second release of our back vintage programme. These wines are aged up to 20 years and capture the essence of our commitment to wines of pedigree and exceptional quality. We have addressed the challenge associated with preserving wines under optimal storage conditions, thereby ensuring their maturity and quality.
