The Caley 2015 Museum Release is the pinnacle of a long winemaking journey of excellence, that rightfully honours one of Yalumba’s most adventurous sons. A blend of Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon and Barossa Shiraz, The Caley is a classic marriage of two noble varieties and two great Australian wine regions.
Tasting Note Deep and brooding with blackcurrant, currants and Coonawarra aromatics of iodine and ozone. Attractive red and blue fruits combine with leafy, cedar Cabernet notes. Just starting to reveal bottle development flavours, this is a generous wine with youthful vibrancy that is carried through to a long finish with pristine tannins.
Terroir Sourced from three outstanding vineyards in the Coonawarra and Barossa. Planted in 1992, the 2.7ha Yalumba Coonawarra D block vineyard provides 60% of the Cabernet. The 14% balance is sourced from the Crown Village vineyard, planted in 1989 on Krondorf road, south east of Tanunda in the Barossa. The 26% Shiraz component was sourced from Burgemeister’s “Linke block” 1901 plantings. This Barossa block is located on the Angaston to Nuriootpa road.
Treatment Matured for 21 months in 46% new French barriques, balance in 2 year and older French barriques.

More Vintages of The Caley

The Museum Collection

Twenty years ago our winemaking team began putting away our flagship wines with the intention for the bottles to be enjoyed at a later date. It was envisioned that beautifully aged wines, released every year, would promote the reputation of surviving heirloom vineyards and consistently show the skilled craftsmanship behind our Yalumba collection.

Our 2025 release builds on that milestone with the second release of our back vintage programme. These wines are aged up to 20 years and capture the essence of our commitment to wines of pedigree and exceptional quality. We have addressed the challenge associated with preserving wines under optimal storage conditions, thereby ensuring their maturity and quality.

When to drink

Built to spend many years in the cellar, The Caley takes time to reveal its true character. The wine will drink beautifully today or in 5 – 30 years.
