The Signature Museum Release 2015

2015

Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz

This has a very attractive, blackberry and red-plum nose with some leafy elements, as well as plenty of oak spice and hints of black tea. This has a fleshy, supple, bold and round palate. Very supple, sleek and long. Silky, yet sturdy. Very drinkable now and will last a good two decades. A vinous slam dunk! Drink or hold.

Each vintage of The Signature is named in honour of an individual who has made a significant contribution to the culture and traditions of Yalumba. It is with great pleasure we present our 46th vintage release of The Signature Cabernet Sauvignon & Shiraz – a superb 2015 vintage that honours the late Darrell Kruger. We raise a glass of this wine to celebrate Darrell’s years of service, commencing in 1975 working for Yalumba in the Barossa vineyards. Darrell lived by the old saying “if you enjoy what you do, you never work a day in your life,” and over the years Darrell rose to become Barossa Vineyard Manager.

Tasting Note This has deep and exotic aromas of red and blue fruits, currants and wild cherries with eucalypt notes. The palate has lovely depth and structure with a generous, fleshy mid-palate that finishes with warm, lingering spices. A wonderful Signature that will continue to develop.
Terroir Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were sourced from the following vineyards: Roenfeldt near Greenock, Brooks near Gomersal, Trevor Fromm near Williamstown, Cowham at Light Pass, Crown Village vineyard in the Krondorf foothills and Miles near Craneford in Eden Valley. These components all provide the aromatic Cabernet Sauvignon lift and palate structure that The Signature is famous for. The majority of the Shiraz comes from four blocks on the Schiller family vineyard, located north of Nuriootpa on the Barossa Valley floor, the oldest of which was planted in 1925. Other vineyard sources included were from near Truro, the Penrice area and around the winery at Angaston. These blocks provide the Shiraz sweetness, fullness, depth and help to add many layers of complexity.
Treatment Matured for 22 months in 18% new Yalumba-coopered French barriques, French and Hungarian hogsheads, balance in older French, Hungarian and American barriques and hogsheads.

The Museum Collection

Twenty years ago our winemaking team began putting away our flagship wines with the intention for the bottles to be enjoyed at a later date. It was envisioned that beautifully aged wines, released every year, would promote the reputation of surviving heirloom vineyards and consistently show the skilled craftsmanship behind our Yalumba collection.

Our 2025 release builds on that milestone with the second release of our back vintage programme. These wines are aged up to 20 years and capture the essence of our commitment to wines of pedigree and exceptional quality. We have addressed the challenge associated with preserving wines under optimal storage conditions, thereby ensuring their maturity and quality.
